Rajtilak Bhattacharjee

Just received a comment from Rajtilak Bhattacharjee, a blogger who maintains a site at The Chronicles of R and contributes to some other sites in whole or in part:

Here’s a bit more about Rajtilak, who describes himself as an avid blogger and content writer working as a technical support person for Dell’s online marketing efforts and for brands like EXL Services and Wipro Spectramind and in lead generation campaigns for Sun Microsystems.

Quite a lot apparently.

I recently tried fooling around with the title of this blog and noticed some increased traffic.

Could it be that the more interesting title made folks stay just a bit longer…and recommend the site to a few friends? I have to thank GreekGeek for her recommendations on Squidoo including the adding of provocative titles to create interest and promptly made similar changes to my “How to use the Internet” page there.

You're reading one now!

A weblog (blog for short) is a constantly updated website where news information in the form of "posts" is constantly added and archived, like articles in a newspaper or magazine, to provide a running record of entries from personal details about the blogger's life, as in the case of a diary, to news and information or details about new product or service.

Unlike the websites that emerged near the beginning of the Internet era, there is no need to seek out your friendly neighborhood web designer to create a personal or professional blog…(More)

Keyboard 2 Squidoo  If the only time you've ever used the Internet is to help research your kid's latest school project or to receive e-mail from a small group of friends, well have we got a surprise for you.

The personal computer in your home office or on the desk in the living room is a window on a world where traditional boundaries no longer exist, where communication is neither one way nor controlled by the traditional gate keepers and where, with a bit of help, anyone can share and connect, learning and taking advantage of new opportunities never before available.

The new media: why should I get involved?

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Keyboard 1 Squidoo  The Internet also known as the New Media may very well prove to be one of the most revolutionary tools in human history.

Today millions use the World Wide Web to look for jobs or potential mates, express their thoughts and give their opinions, learn about far away places and experiences beyond those of their daily lives and much, much more. So why should you become involved?

OK, so as I’ve said to a couple of people criptically in coming days, there are some big changes coming.

Sorry I can’t be more clear, but efforts to become more active with PostRanger.com are under way

So here is an equally criptic shout out. Please feel free to post it in online communities or on your own website in some form with a link back here:

We are looking for some sales reps in the Pittsburgh area who are interested in working with us on an online venture.

Enter big band leader Artie Shaw’s name and you’re likely to also hear from the likes of Benny Goodman, Harry JamesJohnny Hodges and Tommy Dorsey…just to name a few.

Type in blues legend Robert Johnson and you will also likely find yourself listening to Huddie Ledbetter a.k.a. Leadbelly, Charlie Patton, Rev. Robert Wilkins…even Bob Dylan.

Like Last FM, Pandora Internet Radio, an offshoot of the music genome project, helps listeners find music they may be unfamiliar with simply by listing a song or artist they already enjoy. The new “station” the listener creates selects and plays music based on the original pick.

David Nordfors calls them the “punk rock” of journalism while Feedburner co-founder Dick Costolo says they may be better than a business plan.

If you don’t have a blog, get one. They may be the easiest and best way to get involved in the new media. Here’s why:

·        Blogs have great Google juice. Simply put, the forces of the Internet love blogs, feature them in news alerts and prominently in web searches.

·        Blogs are always new. Unlike static old websites which every once in a while need a redesign, blogs are redesigned and updated every single time you post.

Don’t mourn the media

Don't Mourn the media

So, based on the previous post, and the essay it’s based on, is it time to throw in the towel if you happen to be employed in the mainstream media industry?

Not at all!

First, remember that the new media takes in a whole lot more than the traditional media did, and in his article about the reorganization of traditional media, Dave is really only talking about journalism. That leaves an awful lot out, ranging from broadcasting to film to the music industry and more
