Bayonetta Brings Devil May Cry Aesthetic To a New Level [Bayonetta]

Friday, January 30th, 2009

From Croft to Cammy, I’ll take a female protagonist over some cheesy line-spewing pretty boy any day of the week.

So Bayonetta, the upcoming third-person actioner from Platinum Games (compiled of key members from Okami’s Clover Studio), is high on my list of games to play.

While I’m inclined to focus on the the eponymous, gun-footed heroine, the game’s real draw is its pedigree; aside from the Clover connection, the game’s director, Hideki Kamiya, had a hand in creating the Devil May Cry franchise.

Dejobaan Games Announces Aaaaa – I’m Not Typing That Out [Independent Games]

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Dejobaan Games, the independent developers of the amazing The Wonderful End of the World, have just announced an intriguing base-jumping game that might just need a name chance before we write about it again.

The official title of Dejobaan's base-jumping PC title, due out sometime this year, is AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! — A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. I am never typing that out again. We'll just call it Aaaa! for now. Aaaa! is a sleek and stylish look at the dangerous sport of base jumping, in which players jump off of buildings, negotiating a tangle of girders wowing the crowd below, while remembering to open their parachute before they die horribly, with bonuses for flipping off spectators on the way down.

The Moment: Worst Ever In-Flight Food?

Friday, January 30th, 2009
w490 Image This unappetizing in-flight meal and broken monitor inspired an amusing letter to Virgin Atlantic.

I gave up on airline food a long time ago, at least in economy, which is generally my lot in life. I mean, even before the flight-as-commodity-rather-than-experience model became the industry standard, did you ever really want the chicken or the beef? Nevertheless, I am fairly obsessed with the topic (if you’ve never explored the addictive Airlinemeals.net, check it out), so I loved finding this complaint letter, published in Britain's Telegraph, that the passenger Oliver Beale wrote to Sir Richard Branson after taking a Virgin flight from Mumbai to London. It's become something of an Internet mini-phenomenon, with good reason.

Look at this Richard. Just look at it: [see image 1, above]. I imagine the same questions are racing through your brilliant mind as were racing through mine on that fateful day. What is this? Why have I been given it? What have I done to deserve this? And, which one is the starter, which one is the desert?
You don’t get to a position like yours Richard with anything less than a generous sprinkling of observational power so I KNOW you will have spotted the tomato next to the two yellow shafts of sponge on the left. Yes, it’s next to the sponge shaft without the green paste. That’s got to be the clue hasn’t it. No sane person would serve a desert with a tomato would they. Well answer me this Richard, what sort of animal would serve a desert with peas in.”
